U.S. Markets for Interventional Cardiology Products
Report #A208 -
February 2010
323 Pages - 86 Exhibits - 18 Company Profiles

Every 25 seconds someone in the U.S. will suffer a coronary event, and every 60 seconds someone will die from such an event. In the next decade, the number of people living in the U.S. who have heart conditions is expected to continue to increase along with expansion in the elderly segment of the population and growth in the number of people with chronic disorders such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. Currently, nearly 18 million adults age 20 or older in the U.S. suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD), which is the single largest cause of death in the U.S. and also is the greatest cause of premature and permanent disability in the labor force; CHD is responsible for more than 50% of all cardiovascular events in men and women younger than age 75, and for 1 out of every 6 deaths.

Interventional cardiologists utilize a variety of catheter-based tools for the diagnosis and treatment of heart vessel occlusions and heart defects. In 2008, approximately 6.5 million diagnostic and therapeutic interventional cardiology procedures were performed in the U.S., generating nearly $4.7 billion in corresponding product sales. It is expected that the number of interventional cardiology procedures performed in the U.S. will climb to approximately 8.1 million in the year 2013. During this same period, sales of interventional cardiology products are projected to increase at a compound annual rate of 7.5%, reaching nearly $6.7 billion in the year 2013.

This dynamic, new report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of products, current and emerging markets, competitors, and opportunities for suppliers of interventional cardiology devices to the U.S.

Covered topics in this report include heart disease/disorder statistics and technologies and devices for atherectomy, coronary stenting, chronic total occlusion crossing, coronary angiography, drug-eluting balloon angioplasty, guidewire-based physiologic intravascular stenosis assessment, intracardiac echocardiography, intravascular ultrasound, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, thrombectomy, transcatheter septal defect repair, and vascular access site closure.
