U.S. Markets for Arthroscopy Products
December 2005, 162 pages
Report #A315

Arthroscopy is defined as procedures which are performed using percutaneous instruments under the guidance of arthroscopes.  The majority of arthroscopic procedures are performed on the knee (more than 1 million interventions and almost 2 million diagnoses each year).  Repairing torn or damaged menisci of the knee is the most common arthroscopic treatment—the driving force in arthroscopy—with an estimated 875,000 annual meniscal repair procedures.  Repair of torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) are the second most common arthroscopic procedure, at an estimated 250,000 annual procedures.  The most common arthroscopic shoulder procedure is repair of a torn rotator cuff, with over 230,000 arthroscopic procedures performed annually.

This report focuses on several core arthroscopy product areas for the repair of knee and shoulder, including:  implants, accessories, and arthroscopic equipment, including arthroscopes and instrumentation.  These products defined a U.S. arthroscopy products market worth over $640 million in 2004. This market is growing at an annual rate of approximately 4%, projected to reach more than $1.1 billion in 2010.

This dynamic report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of core arthoscopy products and technologies and presents competitors, market forecasts, and opportunities.  Covered topics include:  interference screws, suture anchors, meniscus tacks, rotary shavers/burrs, radiofrequency probes, disposable cannulas, tubing sets, drill bits, guidewires, suture passing devices, capsular shrinkage devices and arthroscopes and instrumentation.

Methodology

Reports are produced exclusively by Medtech Insight, through extensive primary and secondary research among the clinicians, researchers, and competitors in the marketplace, and draw upon the industry expertise of a network of industry insiders.
