European Markets for Transfusion Management Products
Report #A342 -
August 2009
114 Pages – 28 Exhibits

In Europe, approximately 2 million patients lose a sufficient amount of blood annually to require the transfusion of at least 1 unit of blood. Blood transfusions most often are required for cases of acute blood loss (e.g., surgery or trauma) or for cases in which the patient is receiving ongoing treatment for cancer or diseases that result in chronic anemia. Approximately 50% to 65% of open heart surgery patients receive blood transfusions.

In 2008, sales of transfusion management products in the countries of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom (U.K.) totaled approximately $245.5 million; over the forecast period covered by this report, sales of these products are expected to increase at a compound annual rate of 3.8%, reaching an estimated $296.3 million in the year 2013.

This dynamic, new report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of products, markets, competitors, and opportunities in the area of transfusion management. Market segments covered by this report include blood salvage equipment and disposables and plasma volume expanders. This report also includes an update on the progress of clinical development of blood substitutes, or intravascular oxygen carriers, as well as an analysis of critical care in Europe and a discussion of the healthcare structures and regulations in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.
