European Markets for Drug/Fluid Infusion Therapy Products
Report #A353 -
August 2009
138 Pages – 43 Exhibits - 9 Company Profiles

Drug/fluid infusion involves the use of either the force of gravity or fluid compression generated by a pump to move liquids from their containers into a patient’s vascular system or other targeted anatomic sites. Wound pain management via intraoperative site infusion has been successfully used for a variety of surgical procedures including bowel resection, cesarean section, hysterectomy, mastectomy, open hernia repair, open thoracotomy, plastic surgery, prostatectomy, and saphenous vein removal. Clinical studies have demonstrated that local anesthetics provide improved pain management compared to traditional oral narcotic painkillers, and have fewer side effects.

In 2008, sales of drug/fluid infusion therapy products in the European countries of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom (U.K.) totaled approximately $1,447.2 million; over the forecast period covered by this report, sales of these products are expected to increase at a compound annual rate of 4.9%, reaching an estimated $1,833.6 million in the year 2013.

This dynamic new report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of products, markets, competitors, and opportunities in the area of drug/fluid infusion therapy. Market segments covered by this report include vascular access devices (including short peripheral, midline, peripherally inserted central, and central venous catheters), external infusion pumps/administration sets (including volumetric and syringe pumps/administration sets), and gravity infusion systems. This report also includes an analysis of critical care in Europe and a discussion of the healthcare markets of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.
