U.S. Markets for Home Healthcare Products
Report #A371 -
January 2009
522 Pages – 211 Exhibits
1
3 Company Profiles

Valued at more than $4.3 billion, the home healthcare products market is one of the largest and most stable in the United States (U.S.) due to the burgeoning aging population and corresponding increase in lifespan, the critical need for cost-effective medical equipment for patients suffering from long-term chronic conditions, and the increasing usage of technology by the baby boomer population. Additional factors include younger, disabled patients who do not require hospitalization and those recovering from acute medical conditions who need only temporary or intermittent home-based medical care.

In the year 2010, the number of people age 65 and older in the U.S. is expected to total more than 40.2 million (or 13.0% of the total population); by the year 2050, this figure is expected to more than double to approximately 86.7 million (or 20.6%). The estimated number of people age 80 and older is expected to nearly triple, from approximately 11.7 million in the year 2010 to more than 33.7 million in the year 2050.

Several homecare product markets are expected to benefit from demographic and healthcare trends In particular, 6 core homecare product areas are expected to exhibit market growth over the next 5 years, including: peritoneal dialysis therapy, durable medical equipment (DME), enteral nutrition delivery, infusion therapy, respiratory therapy, and advanced wound care therapy. The combined U.S. market for home healthcare products reached $4.3 billion in 2007 and (despite current economic recession and uncertainty), is expected to expand at a compound annual rate of more than 4%, reaching nearly $5.2 billion in 2012.

This dynamic, new report from Medtech Insight includes analyses of products, current and emerging markets, competitors, and opportunities in the U.S. homecare products market. Product areas include: respiratory therapy (mechanical ventilators, oxygen therapy equipment, nebulizers, obstructive sleep apnea therapy products); infusion therapy (peripherally inserted central catheters, ambulatory infusion pumps, and disposable infusion pumps); enteral nutrition delivery (enteral nutrition pumps, disposables kits and gravity sets); dialysis therapy (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, automated peritoneal dialysis); wound healing (conventional dressings, negative pressure wound therapy, ultrasound therapy, and advanced bandages); and DME (wheelchairs, scooters, canes, walkers, bathroom safety products, and homecare beds).
