This report presents the disease incidence and prevalence and surgical procedure volumes for selected neurological diseases/disorders and procedures in Italy; incidence and prevalence figures are compared with those of the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands), the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden), and the European Union (EU) countries of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (U.K.). Among the disorders covered by this report are Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, bipolar disorder, depression, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, and stroke. Among the covered surgical procedures are carotid endarterectomy, cerebral aneurysm clipping, deep brain stimulation, and ventricular shunting/ventriculostomy.

Procedure volumes forecasts are for the years 2010-2016, with aggregate figures for the EU countries of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. as well as for Italy alone. Disease incidence and prevalence figures are for the year 2010.
