  Early-Stage Medical Technology Companies

 

This two-day event highlighted emerging technologies being developed by 56 small, mostly privately-held medical technology companies seeking partnering and/or investment. The meeting drew an attendance of over 340 senior executives from the investment community and major medical technology, biopharmaceutical, biotech, and other companies.

The forum provided focused overviews by a senior executive from each company, followed by the opportunity to meet one-on-one in private breakout rooms.

BioPlastiQ, Inc. -- Bioabsorbable Polymer Gel technology platform for the development of biocompatible implant devices

Biosensor Systems Design, Inc. -- biosensor for the rapid detection of anthrax spores, E-coli O 157, and influenza

Bonecraft, Inc. -- computer-assisted minimally invasive instruments for total joint replacement surgery

Cannuflow, Inc. -- arthroscopic flexible inflow/outflow cannulas

CardioEnergetics, Inc. -- range of heart failure treatment devices

CardioFocus, Inc. -- photonics-based cardiovascular devices

CathEffects, LLC -- electrophysiology catheters and systems for cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment

Cyberkinetics, Inc. -- brain-computer interface platform which may allow interpretation of neural signals controlling voluntary body functions

DermaHealth Systems Corporation -- ice particle skin rejuvenation system and minimally invasive surgical system for multiple cosmetic/aesthetic applications

Doctors Research Group, Inc. -- synthetic bone (vertebroplasty)

Duke Empirical, Inc. -- wound closure device

EndoBionics, Inc. -- microsyringe delivery of cells, genes, and drugs to the vasculature and deep tissues of the body

Harbinger Medical, Inc. -- system analyzes a patient's susceptibility to cardiac arrest and consequent need for an implantable defibrillator

Hemonix, Inc. -- noninvasive blood pressure + central venous pressure + hematocrit + cardiac output

IDev Technologies, Inc. -- minimally invasive interventional radiology/ vascular surgery technologies

Imalux Corporation -- Optical Coherence Tomography using infrared light to give real-time, high resolution imaging of pre-cancerous tissue

Impres Medical, Inc. -- therapy for abnormal uterine bleeding called deactivation

InMedica Development Corporation -- noninvasive device to measure hematocrit

Innovative Spinal Technologies, Inc. -- spine products and services through intellectual property development and contract research

Intelligent Clothing, Ltd. -- wireless telemedicine health monitoring for neonates and infants

IntraLuminal Therapeutics, Inc. -- technology for chronic total occlusions

LifeWave, Inc. -- noninvasive ultra-wide sensors for the continuous cardiac monitoring/management of ambulatory MI patients/other individuals

Light Sciences Corporation -- Light Infusion technology for localized destruction of pathological tissues in cancer, eye, and cardiovascular diseases

Mazor Surgical Technologies, Ltd. -- precise miniature robotic technology for spine, knee, orthopedic, and neurosurgery minimally invasive

Nervonix, Inc. -- technology for imaging peripheral nerves in regional anesthesiology, pain management, and other markets

Pathway Medical Technologies, Inc. -- Cardio-Path Debulking System for treating severely diseased blood vessels

Pelikan Technologies, Inc. -- diabetes monitoring

PhysioAdvantage, LLC -- biosensor that simplifies, improves, and expands monitoring in medical, surgical, and industrial markets

Polymerix Corporation -- anti-inflammatory/antiseptic PolymerDrugs for medical device coatings and pharmaceuticals

Power Medical Interventions, Inc. -- digital and wireless medical technology for advanced minimally invasive procedures

PrISMedical Corporation -- disposable devices for point-of-use preparation and delivery of fluid therapies

Sleep Solutions, Inc. -- sound analysis technology applied to in-home patient monitoring systems for sleep-disordered breathing

Sontra Medical Corporation -- platform technology that applies ultrasound to make the skin permeable for transcutaneous drug delivery and diagnosis

Starion Instruments Corporation -- surgical instruments employing thermal welding technology to seal and cut tissue

The Medipattern Corporation -- institutional and home-based breast screening solution utilizing ultrasound and computer-assisted diagnosis

TheraJect, Inc. -- microneedle technology for drug delivery and vaccinations

Tosk, Inc. -- redevelopment of current blockbuster cancer drugs, creating second-generation chemotherapy lacking toxic side-effects

TransVascular, Inc. -- "cath lab bypass"/myocardial agent delivery

Transvivo, Inc. -- in vivo plasma filtration technology for the treatment of chronic and acute fluid overload

Vascular BioSciences, Inc. -- endoarterial biopsy catheter for the diagnosis and medical management of vascular-based diseases

VascuSense, Inc. -- cardiovascular sensor technologies for treatment and management of CHF

Vector II, Inc. -- handheld meter device for Prothrombin INR technology, used for monitoring anti-coagulation therapy

Vitalog, Inc. -- integrated software/hardware platform for remote sleep patient monitoring, diagnostics, and follow-up

WaveScan, Inc. -- home-based breast cancer screening device using passive microwave radiometry to detect earliest stages of tumor formation

Xillix Technologies Corporation -- endoscopy systems allowing physicians to see very small, early-stage cancer and subtle pre-cancerous lesions

Z-KAT, Inc. -- procedure and implant-specific digital surgery solutions enabling minimally invasive surgical procedures

Zylon Corporation -- low profile balloon catheters for coronary or cranial angioplasty and/or stent deployment
